?President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat for recognizing Nigeria’s customs modernization framework, celebrating the selection of AfriTrade CMP Limited—a subsidiary of Nigerian-owned Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies Limited—to execute a multi-billion-dollar continental customs project over a 20-year period.

?The project aims to deploy digital and physical infrastructure across participating African nations to enhance trade-data exchange, cargo tracking, border management, and customs processing.

The selection builds on the success of Bergmans’ other subsidiary, Trade Modernisation Project Limited, which currently implements Nigeria's local customs modernization program.

President Tinubu noted that the achievement validates Nigeria's capacity to develop homegrown technology capable of serving the broader African market, reinforcing his administration's "Nigeria First" policy aimed at supporting domestic businesses on global stages.

?AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, alongside members of the Senate Committee on Customs led by Senator Jibrin Isah, recently inspected the Nigeria Customs Service operations in Abuja.

Mene praised B’Odogwu—Nigeria’s indigenous Unified Customs Management System piloted in October 2024—as a benchmark for the continent, noting that AfCFTA deliberately prioritized an African solution over foreign competitors.

Integrated with the National Single Window launched in March 2026, the system operates alongside non-intrusive inspection, risk management, and surveillance technologies to streamline cross-border trade, lower transactional costs, and accelerate economic integration across the continent.
