NiDCOM Commends Diaspora Inflows as Monthly Remittances Approach $1 Billion

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has commended Nigerians living abroad for their continuous contributions to the national economy, highlighting that monthly diaspora remittance inflows are now approaching $1 billion alongside a significant surge in direct investments.

?In a press statement issued on October 20, 2026, by the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission attributed these positive economic indicators to growing diaspora confidence in Nigeria’s ongoing structural reforms.

NiDCOM acknowledged that major policy shifts including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were challenging but essential steps to eliminate longstanding economic distortions.

?The commission pointed to key signs of recovery and stability over the past three years, noting that Nigeria's external reserves are now approaching $60 billion alongside the steady rise in remittance inflows.

Beyond personal transfers, Nigerians abroad continue to drive real sector growth by investing heavily in healthcare, agriculture, the food industry, and information and communication technology (ICT), creating local employment and facilitating technology transfer.

?To further mobilize diaspora capital and expertise, NiDCOM highlighted its ongoing strategic engagements through initiatives such as the annual National Diaspora Day celebrations, the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit, and the recently held Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC) in Canada.

?NiDCOM Chairperson/CEO Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised the diaspora community for their resilience and unwavering commitment to supporting their families and home country.

Reaffirming the commission's commitment to simplifying investment pathways for Nigerians abroad, she expressed optimism that sustained economic reforms and increased private sector participation will unlock even greater opportunities for skills, capital, and innovation to return to Nigeria.
