NSCIA Congratulates CAN on Golden Jubilee, Calls for Sustained Inter-Faith Unity

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the nation’s Christian community on celebrating the association’s 50th anniversary.

?In an official statement signed by NSCIA Secretary-General Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Council described CAN's golden jubilee as a monumental milestone for both the Christian faithful and the Nigerian nation. Reflecting on Nigeria’s past hurdles, the NSCIA commended religious institutions for their steadfast role in advocating peace, inter-faith dialogue, and mutual understanding through challenging times.

?Highlighting the pivotal role both faith groups play in shaping society, the Council noted that Muslims and Christians together make up the overwhelming majority of the population. Consequently, both groups share a collective duty to foster peace, uphold justice, improve security, encourage responsible citizenship, and advance national development.

?The statement emphasized that pressing socio-economic issues—such as injustice, insecurity, poverty, unemployment, inequality, and the demand for accountable governance require joint, decisive action from all Nigerians.

?The Council reaffirmed its commitment to continuous inter-faith cooperation and praised collaborative channels like the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) for providing effective platforms where leaders can constructively address national concerns.

?Reiterating that religious diversity should serve as a source of compassion, equity, and service to humanity rather than a line of division, the NSCIA extended its warm wishes to CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the National Executive Committee, member denominations, and Christians across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
