The Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, received His Excellency Yu Dunhai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 27, 2026.

?Ambassador Yu congratulated the Minister on his appointment and expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration during his tenure.

The meeting served as a forum to review the robust bilateral relations between both nations, underpinned by mutual respect, equality, and shared development goals.

?Discussions centered on advancing the Nigeria–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across key sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure, industrialization, energy, agriculture, education, and cultural exchange.

?Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the One-China Policy, Ambassador Enikanolaiye expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support of Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He specifically commended China’s zero-tariff initiative for eligible exports, noting its role in boosting Nigerian products in Chinese markets, adding value, and creating local jobs.

?Ambassador Yu revealed that Nigerian exports to China have surged by over 88% following the implementation of the Zero-Tariff Policy.

Highlighting new frontiers for cooperation, the envoy acknowledged Nigeria's participation in the inaugural meeting of the World Artificial Intelligence Organization and invited the country to join as a founding member.

?Ambassador Enikanolaiye assured the envoy that the proposal would be reviewed alongside relevant government agencies. Both officials agreed to maintain high-level diplomatic dialogue, expand economic engagement, and explore emerging partnerships in science, technology, the digital economy, and regional security.

?The visit comes as Nigeria and China celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, reaffirming a long-standing partnership focused on delivering tangible economic benefits for both nations.
