Misau Model School in Bauchi State has emerged winner of the 9th edition of State level National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy for Senior Secondary Schools in the State.
The quiz was organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) at the State Assembly on Thursday in Bauchi.
The participants were, Sabuwar Tiffi School Ningi, Misau Model School, Sunshine International School, Government day Secondary school Maishango, Jammare and Ahmed Turaki School Azare
Misau Model School emerged the overall champion after defeating Sunshine International School Bauchi in the final round, Sabuwar Tiffi School Ningi came third.
Dr Nasiru Ala, Chairman House Committee on Education commended the schools for their outstanding performance in this year’s quiz and encouraged them to keep the flag flying.
He also commended the state government for giving education all the necessary support and priority to strive in the state.
He urged the students to strive to become visionary leaders in future by abstaining from things that would truncate their dreams and goals.
Speaking also, Dr (Mrs) Jamila Dahiru, State Commissioner of Education, thanked NILDS for organising the competition and the schools that participated.
She said the participants should be optimal in all their activities.
Dahiru assured that the state government would continue to partner with NILDS competitions in the state.
According to her, the State government under the leadership of Gov. Bala Mohammed has accord partners and organisations that want to uplift the standard of education of the state.
Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General of NILDS, represented by Malam Waziri Usman, co-ordinator of the quiz, explained that similar competitions were held involving secondary schools drawn from the three senatorial zones in the 36 states.
“As you may have observed, both private and government schools are represented in this quiz competition,” he said.
According to him, this is happening this time where youth participation in civic, political, and governance spaces is either low or challenged by a lack of access to opportunities.
Sulaiman said NILDS Quiz competition served as a vehicle for engagement and advocacy to close the youth exclusion gap and raise leaders that would champion democratic processes and serve as change agents.
