Bauchi teacher’s advocates for prioritize girls’ education, empowerment

Some passionate teachers in Bauchi State, have called for greater investment in girls’ education and empowerment to explore the cycle of poverty and promote gender equality.

Some of the teachers that spoke to our Correspondent as part of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child commemoration on Sunday in Bauchi, They highlighted the significance of education to girl child education.

Mrs Sa’adatu Adam Garba, a teacher, expressed concern about the barriers many girls face in accessing education, particularly in rural areas.

“Despite progress, cultural norms and financial constraints deny many girls their right to education.

“Some parents still believe a girl’s future lies in her husband’s house, neglecting the importance of educating her.” She said,

As a teacher, Garba has witnessed firsthand the potential of girls when given the opportunity to learn and grow.

“Education empowers girls to uplift themselves, their families, and communities,” she emphasized. “It helps them break free from poverty, stand up for their rights, and make informed decisions.”

Garba praised Plan International and the Bauchi State government for organizing the celebration, which serves as a reminder that girls have a voice and can achieve anything.

Also Speaking, Teacher Magret Bala called for more mentorship programs to guide and support young girls, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Mentorship inspires girls to push forward when they see women succeeding despite obstacles,” She noted.

Bala expressed optimism for the future, urging girls to remain determined in pursuing their dreams.

“Girls are the leaders of tomorrow, capable of shaping their bright futures,” she stated. “My message to every girl is to never give up, no matter the challenges.” She said

The 2024 International Day of the Girl Child event brought together girls, government officials, and advocates to the State government to highlight the importance of education, empowerment, and protection of girls’ rights.
