Bauchi inaugurates 11 member Committee for minimum wage

The Bauchi State Government Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has inaugurated an 11-member tripartite technical committee to facilitate the implementation of the national minimum wage.

The committee,comprises representatives from the state government, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Trade Union Congress (TUC)

Mr Dauda Shuaibu, NLC chairman, Bauchi State Chapter stated this at a news conference on Friday in Bauchi

He said the committee was inaugurated on Friday, following a State Executive Council meeting with labor union leaders.

Shuaibu explained that the committee has agreed on a minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in the state.

“This development marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance the living standards of workers.

That legislation has passed through the House of Representatives and Senate

“Presidential already assent obtained,
already gazetted and circular Issuance distributed to relevant MDAs across Nigeria,” he said.

Shuaibu said the technical committee’s primary objective is to develop modalities for the payment of the national minimum wage to civil servants.

The committee’s membership derives from various sources of salary structures in the state.

Our reports that the committee is set to begin work immediately, with negotiations commencing from October 4, 2024.

“This timeline ensures that the implementation process is expedited, and civil servants benefit from the new minimum wage without delay,” he said.
