Not less than 2,000 youth and women farmers across seven local government areas in Bauchi South senatorial district received high-quality hybrid seedlings for dry season farming.

This is part of Sen. Shehu Buba Umar’s initiative aimed to boost food production, self-reliance, and reduce unemployment.

At a ceremony held in Bauchi, Senator Umar’s Legislative Aide, Hon. Maijama’a Mato, represented the senator and presented the seedlings to the beneficiaries on Monday.

The seedlings, including maize, rice, and soybeans, were distributed in collaboration with the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute and Pacificmate Global Concepts LTD.

“The initiative was aimed to boost food production and security and promote self-reliance among beneficiaries

“As well as reduce unemployment trends among youths and women,” he said.

The General Manager of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Mr. Abdullatif Nuruddeen, highlighted the quality of the seedlings:

“Each beneficiary will receive 10 bags of hybrid seedlings, including maize, rice, soghom, soya beans, and ordinary beans.”

Nuruddeen cautioned beneficiaries against selling the seedlings:

“Utilize these resources for agricultural output and mass production, benefiting our citizens.” He said

A beneficiary, Haruna Shuaibu Burwat, pledged to support the senator’s objectives, ensuring the program’s success.
