NGO inaugurate tree planting initiative combat climate change in Bauchi

Anon-governmental organization NGO Gaide Green Club has launched a tree-planting exercise to mitigate the effects of climate change in Giade Local government area of Bauchi State

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the chairman of Gaide Green Club, Mr . Adamu Bello Giade, at weekend in Giade

He said the initiative aims to address both the immediate and long-term impacts of environmental degradation caused by deforestation.

Giade emphasized the urgency of adopting drastic measures to counteract the devastating consequences of climate change.

He revealed that the area has recently experienced unprecedented windstorms, flooding, erosion, heat, and land degradation, all of which are attributed to deforestation.

“The immediate focus of our organization is to raise public awareness about the dangers and consequences of illegal tree felling, as well as the importance of tree planting.

“Trees contribute to the regulation of the water cycle by maintaining humidity levels and ensuring consistent rainfall. Deforestation disrupts this balance, leading to irregular weather patterns and water shortages,” he said.

Giade further explained that the long-term strategy involves planting tree seedlings in various locations and major towns within the local government, benefiting future generations.

“As part of the first phase of the initiative, Green Club to plant 10,000 tree seedlings, generously donated by philanthropic individuals.,” he said

He also called on donor organizations to assist with providing necessary equipment to support the tree-planting efforts and help transform the area into a greener, more sustainable environment.

Gaide Green Club’s tree-planting initiative is a crucial step towards addressing these challenges and promoting environmental sustainability in Giade.
