Update: 6 died, many injured after Kano Mosque fire incident

 

Tha Kano State Commissioner of police, Mr Muhammad Useini Gumel has confirmed the death of six of the 24 victims of Gezawa mosque incident.

He confirmed this in an interview with Top Daily News on Wednesday, saying the victims died on while receiving treatment at Murtala and Aminu Kano teaching hospitals respectively.

 

Recall that a 38 year old Shafiu Abubakar was arrested for setting worshipers ablaze at Larabar Abasawa of Gezawa local government of the state.

 

He had confessed his crime and the police said he would be charged to court immediately after the investigation.

 

C P Gumel debunked the rumour associating the incident to insurgent attack, urging the people of Kano to remain calm as police gets to the root of the matter.

Shafiu Abbubakar was said to have used petroleum and set the mosque on fire during the early morning prayer.

Most of the victims of the attack were said to be members of his family. While responding to questions from newsmen, the suspect confessed to the crime saying his action was out of frustration resulting from forced marriage with one of his relatives.
