Senator Ali Ndume has initiated an educational programme to care for about 1, 100 students in his constituency in Borno State.
The programme was flagged off by the Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum today in Maiduguri.
The governor was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur at the event held at the University of Maiduguri today.
Maidawaarewa reports that Ndume’s program is meant to provide educational support of N20,000 to every oneyone of the 1,100 students who study at the university, from his constituency.
Zulum pledged to also donate N10 mln to the fund in it’s next round, after praising Sen. Ndume for his thoughtful intervention in improving the lives of his constituents.
Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, vice chancellor of the university also appreciated the lawmaker for his contribution towards supporting poor students who cannot deal with the new increment in school fees.
He also called on other lawmakers to replicate the good work across their constituencies.
Junaid Jibril Maiva, coordinator of Ndume Education Support Fund, said the program originated from the lawmaker’s concern to assist the less privileged.
Previously the fund doled out outN10,000 per each of 1, 000 students, a hundred short of this year’s.
The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to Sen. Ndume and committed to using the funds for their intended educational purposes.
