THE BABY MAMA 3 “A short story”

 

My anger boiled over what my mother inlaw said.. I walked out on her to avoid saying words that I may end up regretting. I got prepared for work and left.

When I got to the office, I called my elder sister and told her about everything. She adviced that I should not allow my mother inlaw behavior to weigh me down since she would soon leave. I made sure to get my dinner from the fast food to avoid any quarrel. My wife and I became strangers in our home. My mother inlaw became the head of the house. My wife preferred sleeping with her mother while I die of loneliness. I buried my loneliness in my work.

One night I came home around 11pm, it was not intentional. One of the drivers knocked down an old woman while returning to the office, since I was in charge of human resources, my boss asked me and some other staffs to stay behind as to know the next action to take. After making sure that the old woman was properly taken care of, I was released to come home. I came home very late that day. I called my wife to inform her that I will be home late.

“Why are you coming home by this time of the night” she asked

“Baby I’m sorry, you won’t believe what happened in the office today” I said sitting down

“What would have happened if not you gallivanting the streets of port Harcourt with your side chick”

“Excuse me! Are you saying that I’m cheating on you”

“Yes right. That’s the only thing that would keep a man outside till this time. She yelled.

I was taken aback by her words. even during our friendship days till the day we started courting, she never saw me with another woman. I have never for one day thought of it. How can she look into my eyes and accuse me of cheating. Even when my mother inlaw came out, she never tried to caution her daughter rather she supported her. I felt a dagger pass through my heart over what my wife said.
