Over 41, 056 people were screened of Tuberculosis, with 238 placed on treatment during the recently concluded Tuberculosis testing week of Kano State Government.
This is apart from 305 patients, including 44 children already on Tuberculosis prevention treatment before the testing exercise, according to Kano state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.
The Commissioner listed the activities during the Tuberculosis testing week to include general TB screening in all our health facilities, community outreaches, sensitization, TB screening in all special institution such as tertiary institutions, correctional centers, nutrition, pediatric and children welfare clinics, Islamiyya and Tsangaya schools among others.
He added that some of the symptoms of Tuberculosis to include cough of two weeks or more, night sweat and fever. He added that diagnosis and treatment is free.
Dr. Labaran Yusuf who stated this during the wrap-up of the National TB testing week 2023, expressed satisfaction over the success of the programme.
According to him, the eight days activities was organized with various Tuberculosis intervention by the Kano state government through the state Ministry for Health, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health, development partners and other stakeh
olders.
He, however, called on the people to approach the nearest health facility and get screened for TB which is free of charge.
He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the Ministry of Health towards providing adequate healthcare delivery to the good people of Kano state.
He also appreciated traditional and religious leaders, philanthropists and the development partners for their support towards the success of the week-long activities.
