The Langa Women Development Initiative (LWDI), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in collaboration with ASHH Foundation in Bauchi State has commenced eight weeks training of 25 participants on Management of bullying and peace building in the state.

Mrs Grace Maikudi, Executive Director of LWDI in an interview with Journalists on Monday in Bauchi described bullying as ` a damaging act’.

She said the objective of the training was to equip the participants with knowledge on bullying and peace building, and how to effectively impact such knowledge in the society, especially in schools..

The participants are also expected to be ambassadors of peace especially to youths within school going age, adding that bullying can be hugely detrimental to kids of all ages.

“The evidence is mounting that bullying is hugely damaging and must be stopped at all costs.’’

According to Maikudi, one of the best ways to approach bullying is to run an anti-bullying campaign cohesively in schools.

“If the whole community steps up against it, and declares it unacceptable, then the social pressure can change and turn against bullying instead of supporting it.

“There are many ways that we can make a fun and engaging anti-bullying campaign,’’ she said.

Similarly, a Consultant with LWDI, Hajiya Binta Adamu told our correspondent that one of the most effective ways to prevent bullying is by instituting a strong peer support system.

“An anti-bullying campaign is the perfect time to discuss such possibilities with students, give them a stake in how they work,

“Get the whole school and students involved. Instituting a peer support system can start with training on what to do about bullying,’’ Adamu said.

Our Correspondent reports that at the end of the eight weeks training, the NGO would enlist Ambassadors and champions of Bullying Campaigns in the state.
