The Nigerian Senate has appealed to the leadership and Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors to suspend the ongoing strike in the interest of all Nigerians.
Recall that the Doctors yesterday commenced a nationwide strike following the inability of the government at the center to meet their demands.
Senator Yunus Akintunde, from Oyo Central while moving a motion on the matter said the Doctors claimed that on May 19th, 2023, they Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government, after a meeting with Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Health but with little or no action plans on such.
He emphasized the need for the Senate to appeal to the Doctors to shelve the ongoing strike and resume at their respective duty post while the Senate would work on how to ensure that the Memorandum of Understanding signed is complied with.
In his input on the matter, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jubril Barau, expressed concern on the implications of the strike noting that Doctors are key Stakeholders in the health sector noting that there is the need to appeal to them to suspend the strike.
In his remark, the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, said the Senate would take all the resolutions reached on the matter with all seriousness, while he appealed to the Doctors to suspend the ongoing strike.
