Smallholder farmers urges Bauchi Govt to intensify awareness among farmers for productivity.

Baichi smallholder farmers urged the Bauchi state government and partners to intensify awareness among farmers to enable them enhance production and productivity in various crops and farm management in the state.

The farmers made the call at the end of Six weeks interactive Agricultural Extension extension service radio Programme for Smallholder farmers at Globe FM Bauchi.

The programme framework is tag Together Against Please (TAP) project sponsored by Civil Society legislative Advocacy Center CISLAC with the support from OXFAM.

Mr Gani Fulani a caller from Doma local government area of Nasarawa state said the programme is impactful, saying it has raise and increase farmers knowledge and awareness to enhance production and productivity of various crops,

He called on the government and partners to sustain the programme for farmers to improve their knowledge and fight the hunger the country is advocating for.

He stressed the need for creating awareness and sensitizing the farmers on the dangers of indiscriminate use of pesticides with a lot of emphasis on safe agricultural produce.

“The awareness was also encouraging farmers to use organic pesticides which had no residual effect,” he said.

Another caller, Hajiya Maman Nana from Daraza LGA sought advice from the experts on how to boost their farming activities and solicited for more enlightenment programmes to widen their horizon on farming.

She also appealed for sustainability of the radio programme for the farmers, saying we have benefited immensely from the programme.

A caller from Alkaleri Hamidu Alkas said the radio programme for farmers was timely and impactful.

“The programme focuses on awareness creation and enhanced use of appropriate technology in agriculture and allied sectors.

“It dwells on agricultural technologies in different thematic areas to increase production and productivity of crops through farmers training and sensitisation,” he said.

A guest of the radio programme and a former Programme Manager Bauchi state Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) Dr Aliyu Iliyas Gital emphasis the need to sustain the programme.

He commended CISLAC and Oxfam for supporting the programme for six weeks, according to him the programme was a success because the way people sought for more enlightenment on the programme

He called on CISLAC, OXFAM, government and Civil Society Organizations among others to sponsor similar programmes considering its benefits to the farmers.
