Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje Pardoned And Released 12 Inmates

The Executive Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Tuesday released and pardoned 12 inmates on death row and also commuted death sentances of 6 inmates to life imprisonment.

 

 

Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarawa Kano Command Public Relations Officer Nigeria correctional services authority made this Known in a statement issued.

 

 

He said the Governor equally pardoned Four female inmates with long term sentences, base on their good behavior and industries as recommended by the Correctional Authority.

 

According to him, some of the pardoned inmates have spent 25 years awaiting execution.

 

 

In his speech, the Chairman of the prerogative of Mercy, Abdullahi Garba Rano thanked Ganduje for using the power conferred on him by the Constitution to released the inmates with good behavior at the recommendation of the Advisory council of prerogative of Mercy.

 

The Governor also gave 5000 Transport fare to each of the released inmates to enable them reunite with their families.

 

The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Sulaiman Mohd Inuwa thanked the Governor for decongesting the custodial Center, and he called on the released inmates to be good ambassador of the Nigerian Correctional Service to the society and to stay away from any act that can lead them back to the crime.
