The federal government has warned that it would no longer allow strikes or riots around airports in the country.
The warning was issued hours after Aviation workers under the aegis of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, suspended their strike which the unions commenced on Monday, January 23, and which also led to massive flight disruption nationwide.
Apologizing to Nigerians for the inconvenience caused by the strike, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika stated that the federal government would no longer allow strikes by aviation workers around the airport, because not only does aviation offer essential services but is also prohibited by law.
He further revealed that the Federal Executive Council approved contracts worth over N10 billion for the aviation ministry.
Good leadership appreciate and happy with you sir minister,
The Constitution specifically provides that salaries and wage of FG employees shall be reviewed every years. If the extant laws of the country have been respected by the federal aviation minister. There would have been no reason for strike in the aviation industry. The minimum wage act of law of 2019 has not been implemented by the ministry four years later. Condition of service due for review several years ago have not been implemented. Where much is given, much is expected. Whereby the minister failed to respond, respect and implement staff wellness and welfare policies. His wishful thinking on strike situation will remain a wishful thinking, because respect is resipocal!
*shall be reviewed every five years….
