Court sentenced man to death by hanging for killing his wife in Jigawa

The Jigawa State High Court Sitting in Gumel , presided by

Justice Abubakar Mohammed Sambo of the Jigawa State high coyrt Gumel, has convicted one Rabiu Mamman of Medin Labo village, Gagarawa local Government Area by sentencing him to death for culpable Homicide which is punishable by death on 4 August 2021.

The facts of the case were that, the convict Rabiu Mamman in the year 2016 ambushed his wife in Mesheda Bush and hits her with a stick on the head which instantly resulted to her death.

The defendant then dug a shallow grave and buried her.

During the hearing, Prosecution counsel Barrister Jamilu Mohammed called four (4) witnesses and tendered the recorded statements of the defendant.

The defendant testified in his defence by denying the charges against him.

The trial Judge, Justice Abubakar Sambo ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt for the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death, he consquently, convicted Rabiu Mamman on the first head count charge and sentenced him to death by hanging under the Section 221(b) of the Jigawa State Penal Code Law.

The court further held that the prosecution has failed to prove the second head of the charge of giving false information contrary to section 178 of the penal code Jigawa State, as such it acquits him.
