Speaker Abbas Urges City Boy Movement to Prioritize Youth, Women, and Persons with Disabilities

?The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has advised the City Boy Movement (CBM) to focus its mobilization efforts on young Nigerians, newly registered voters, women, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

?Speaker Abbas gave the advice when the leadership of the movement, led by its Director-General, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, paid him a visit in Abuja.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the House, the Speaker described himself as a strong supporter of the CBM, commending its high level of organization following their recent engagement at the State House with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

?Highlighting the importance of young voters, Speaker Abbas noted that out of the over 103 million registered voters in the country, a significant portion includes 10.8 million newly registered citizens by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—most of whom are youths.

He urged the CBM, which currently boasts over 4 million members, to ensure each member brings at least one young voter into its fold to secure President Tinubu’s reelection in the January 16, 2027, presidential poll.

?Beyond electoral campaigns, the Speaker encouraged the movement to maintain its structure post-2027 to continuously advocate for good governance.

He also strongly advocated for the inclusion of women and PLWDs, calling Nigeria’s current ranking on female political representation unacceptable and emphasizing that PLWDs remain underserved across both public and civil sectors.

He revealed that President Tinubu is set to transmit executive bills to the National Assembly aimed at empowering these groups.

?Responding, the CBM Director-General, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, commended the Speaker and acknowledged his wife, Hajiya Fatima Abbas-Tajudeen, as a dedicated supporter of the movement.

Shoga stated that the CBM currently has 4.8 million registered members and is targeting at least 10 million votes for President Tinubu.

He assured the Speaker that the movement has adopted his advice and remains committed to youth empowerment, community service, discipline, and promoting the proposed PBAT Stewardship Account.
