Nigeria Labour Congress Demands Immediate Minimum Wage Talks and Fuel Price Slash

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to urgently initiate negotiations for a new national minimum wage that reflects current economic realities before the end of October.

?The demand was outlined in a communiqué released following a joint meeting of the congress's National Executive Council (NEC) and Central Working Committee (CWC) in Abuja.

?Alongside the call for wage talks, the labor union demanded an immediate reduction in the pump price of petrol, emphasizing that the high cost of the product has triggered severe price hikes across transportation, food, and other essential commodities.

?To further cushion the burden on workers, the NLC called for tax relief and temporary wage awards. It also insisted on the immediate implementation of outstanding agreements previously reached with the Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals (JOHESU) and the Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council (JPSNC).

?The NLC maintained that addressing these key demands is vital to reducing the widespread economic difficulties currently facing Nigerian workers and the general public.
