The Inter Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), Kano state chapter has urged Kano state governorship election petition tribunal to discharge its duties with utmost integrity and impartiality so as to ensure justice is served to all parties.
IPAC Kano States Wing legal adviser Barrister Salisu Umar disclosed this at a press conference held in Kano on Tuesday ahead of the tribunal judgment schedule for Wednesday, 20th September, 2023.
According to the adviser, IPAC has implored the tribunal to maintain transparency in its proceedings by allowing the public and all concerned parties to have confidence in the outcome of the legal process.
He said its essential for the court’s decisions be guided by the law and the facts presented, rather than any external influence which may subsequently triggers violence and break down of law and order in the state.
Salisu Umar when further to say “we call on all political parties, their candidates and supporters to respect the rule of law and exercise patience as the tribunal carries out its duties. It is through peaceful coexistence and adherence to legal process that we can strengthen our democracy and build a better Nigeria for all.”
“It is essential that we emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and respect for the rule of law during this critical period in our political history.
The outcome of the Kano State Election Tribunal represents the voice of the
judiciary, and it is a cornerstone of our democracy that all political parties should respect and adhere to,” it he added.
The legal adviser also said “We must prioritize the peace and security of our dear state. Engaging in violence or promoting instability will only harm our communities and undermine the democratic process. Instead of resorting to violence or protests, political parties should explore the opportunity to appeal through legal and peaceful means. The legal system provides a platform for
grievances to be addressed, ensuring fairness and justice.”
He added that IPAC remain committed in promoting unity, fairness and justice in the Nigerian political landscape.
