?President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured that Nigeria’s state-owned oil refineries will be repositioned to deliver sustainable value and profitability, emphasizing that a systematic, evidence-based restructuring is underway to address their long-standing operational, financial, and managerial hurdles.

?Speaking during a courtesy visit by the National Executive of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) at the State House in Abuja, the President asserted that the facilities would not be allowed to waste away following decades of heavy public investment.

He stressed that a functional refinery must yield true economic returns rather than mere physical activity, taking full responsibility for fixing inherited assets and liabilities for the public good.

?During the engagement, President Tinubu also addressed ongoing constitutional reviews regarding local government autonomy, promised greater union involvement in the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PCNGI), and paid tribute to the late former NUPENG leader, Frank Kokori, for his sacrifices in defending Nigerian democracy.

?In his remarks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, praised NUPENG for recognizing the administration's progress, noting that constructive dialogue and mutual understanding have significantly reduced friction between organized labor and the government.

?Corroborating this, NUPENG President Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti commended President Tinubu’s bold decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy, noting that freed resources are already fueling vital national infrastructure.

Oladiti highlighted ongoing flagship projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, noting that improved road networks directly safeguard the lives of tanker drivers and transport workers.

?While reiterating NUPENG's appeal for the speedy revitalization of local refining capacity to boost energy security and domestic job creation, the union executives formally decorated President Tinubu as the Grand Patron of NUPENG.
