The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially extended its congratulations to His Excellency, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of the Republic of Senegal, following his election as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
?In a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria commended the regional bloc's leadership for ensuring a seamless leadership transition, highlighting it as a strong endorsement of West Africa's commitment to democratic governance, solidarity, and shared progress.
?Nigeria noted that President Faye assumes the chairmanship at a critical juncture for the sub-region, as member states work collectively to tackle security threats, deepen regional integration, and foster economic prosperity.
?As a founding member of the bloc, Nigeria reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Senegal’s chairmanship and collaborating closely with all member states. The country reiterated its dedication to strengthening community institutions, boosting intra-regional trade, promoting good governance, and enhancing peace and stability across West Africa.
?Additionally, Nigeria extended congratulations to the Republic of Senegal on the appointment of General Birame Diop as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission, expressing enthusiasm for partnering with the newly inaugurated leadership team to drive the region's development agenda forward.
