?Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially flagged off the 2026 Wet Farming Season by launching a massive agricultural intervention to boost food security and support rural livelihoods.

As part of this comprehensive initiative, the state has procured 200 truckloads of high-quality NPK fertilizer to be sold to smallholder farmers at a heavily subsidized rate of 50 percent off the market price.

Additionally, over 120,000 profiled farmers across the state will receive free agricultural inputs, including 40,000 liters of agrochemicals, 5,000 water pumps,

5,000 knapsack sprayers, and post-harvest storage facilities to reduce crop losses. To improve the mobility of rural farmers, the governor also unveiled the distribution of 10,000 free bicycles.

?The flag-off ceremony, held at the Kwaya Kusar Main Stadium due to the area’s high agricultural potential, included a strong warning from Governor Zulum against the diversion, hoarding, or reselling of the subsidized inputs.

Alongside the agricultural rollout, the governor announced a ?500 million cash support package targeting vulnerable individuals, women, and youth across five local government areas—Biu, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar, Shani, and Bayo—to stimulate local economic activity.

The event, praised by state officials and attended by prominent traditional and political leaders, highlighted Borno's growing agricultural investments, with Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume also advocating for the revival of the state's annual agricultural show to further promote regional innovation.
