Gidan Alheri, a faith-based support group under the Dangin Juna Afirka Initiative (DJAI), has distributed food items and cash assistance to its members and other vulnerable persons in Gombe State to cushion the economic strain associated with the Ramadan fast.

Items distributed to beneficiaries included millet, sugar, 10kg bags of rice, spaghetti and a cash donation of N5,000 each to support their feeding during the holy month.

The Special Assistant to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Security and Intergovernmental Affairs, Yusuf Musa Danbayo, donated millet and sugar to 20 members of the group.

He described the intervention as part of ongoing efforts to encourage charity and provide relief to vulnerable individuals during Ramadan.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman of the group, Sagir A.A. Haruna, said the Ramadan outreach has become an annual programme sustained consistently over the past four years.

He explained that the association constituted a committee to coordinate daily feeding for vulnerable groups and Almajiri schools across the state.

According to him, meals such as kunu, kosai and spaghetti are being provided for 25 days throughout the fasting period.

Haruna, who also contributed rice and additional cash support, noted that under the national structure of DJAI, one state is selected each year for a special humanitarian outreach programme aimed at expanding the impact of the initiative.

Some of the beneficiaries commended the leadership of the association for prioritising the welfare of members and extending support to the less privileged.

In a related gesture, the group provided cash and clothing assistance to one of its members, Aisha Remember, whose shop was recently destroyed by fire, helping her to begin the process of recovery.
