?The Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, PhD, representing Benue South, moved a crucial motion on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, calling for immediate intervention following a series of brutal bandit attacks in Otukpo Local Government Area.

Between last Friday and Tuesday, armed bandits launched coordinated assaults on three agrarian communities Akpachi-Ugboju, Otukpo-Nobi, and Ondo Ugboju leaving 20 people dead, many injured, and thousands displaced.

?Following the motion, the Senate adopted several key resolutions to address the unfolding crisis

?Immediate Deployment: Urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to immediately deploy heavy security personnel to the affected communities to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.

?Thorough Investigation Mandated the IGP to launch an exhaustive investigation to track down, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators.

?Emergency Relief: Called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to swiftly provide food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to the displaced victims.

?Strategic Oversight: Charged the Senate Committees on Police Affairs, Defense, and National Security and Intelligence to interface with security chiefs and review operational strategies in Benue South.

?In response, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, expressed his deep condolences to Senator Moro and the people of Benue South.
