Discipline, Health, Unity Highlight Bauchi School Games

 The National President of the Nigeria Association of SUBEB Sport Officers Forum (NASSOF),Ipede Joseph has called on pupils participating in the Basic Education School Sports (BESS) Competition in Bauchi to balance academic pursuit with sporting excellence in order to secure a brighter future.


Joseph made the call at the cultural activities and educational talk, as part of BESS Competition on Sunday in Bauchi 


He explained that the programme was designed to expose children to career opportunities while nurturing emerging talents nationwide. 


Joseph disclosed that about 1,100 pupils drawn from 20 states are taking part in the competition, 


He stressed that education and sports must complement each other for holistic development. 


The President expressed hope that the initiative would produce future icons comparable to Jay-Jay Okocha, Mary Onyali, and Anthony Joshua, while commending UBEC, SUBEB, participating states, and the FCT for their support. 


He also noted that the peaceful interaction and the cultural activities among participants reflects unity and optimism despite security concerns in the country.


On her part, Ms Odika Antonia of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board emphasised self-belief, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship as essential values for young athletes. 


She said the competition extends beyond medal-winning to building confidence, mutual respect, and cooperation among children from diverse backgrounds. 


Antonia praised the pupils’ conduct during the five-day event and lauded Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting the successful hosting of the games.


In a related health session, Mr. Farouq Mirza,Medical expert, highlighted the link between sports, hygiene, nutrition, and mental well-being. 


He urged pupils to maintain fitness, manage stress, observe sanitation, and adopt balanced diets to sustain active lifestyles and responsible living.


Master Ibrahim Jauro , a participant from Gombe acknowledged that the competition brings together people from different backgrounds that foster unity.


Miss Eborka Guinevere from Delta State, described the experience as exciting and enriching, 


She noted that the programme fostered friendship, confidence, and unity among young athletes across Nigeria
