President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel praised the agency for its key role in apprehending and extraditing Nigerian suspects involved in international sextortion schemes targeting minors.
?In a letter to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Director Patel highlighted the commission's contribution to Operation Artemis, a joint investigation focused on dismantling global child sexual exploitation networks.
The operation resulted in the August 2026 arrest and extradition of Nigerian suspects Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, who now face U.S. federal charges.
Patel noted that the successful outcome of the cases was impossible without the EFCC's dedication to international law enforcement collaboration.
?President Tinubu described the FBI’s commendation as further proof of Nigeria’s progress in fighting financial crimes and deepening global security partnerships.
He stressed that Nigeria must never become a safe haven for criminals, pledging full administrative support to law enforcement bodies enforcing justice.
?The commendation highlights a broader pattern of international recognition for Nigeria’s financial and anti-corruption reforms, which recently led to the country's removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list in October 2025 and the European Union’s high-risk financial jurisdictions list in January 2026.
President Tinubu reiterated that his administration measures its anti-corruption efforts by tangible results and institutional strengthening rather than publicity, urging the EFCC to sustain its momentum in protecting citizens and safeguarding Nigeria's global standing.
