?As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on citizens across the nation to prioritize national unity, peaceful coexistence, equity, and civic responsibility, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

?In an independence message issued to commemorate the annual milestone on October 1, the Islamic human rights organization stressed that national stability depends heavily on the collective commitment of both leaders and ordinary citizens.

MURIC highlighted that patriotism, ethical political conduct, and respect for rule of law must supersede narrow regional, ethnic, or religious interests if Nigeria is to overcome its present socioeconomic and security challenges.

?Addressing politicians and political parties as the country moves closer to another electoral cycle, the advocacy group cautioned against incendiary rhetoric, political thuggery, and actions capable of overheating the polity.

MURIC emphasized that democracy thrives only in an atmosphere grounded in justice, fair play, and transparent governance, urging political actors to act with maturity and put the interest of the nation first.

?The organization also called on citizens to exercise responsible citizenship by actively engaging in nation-building, shunning electoral violence, and holding leaders accountable through peaceful and democratic channels.

While congratulating Nigerians on reaching 66 years of sovereign statehood, MURIC expressed optimism that through sustained prayers, mutual understanding, and committed leadership, the country can navigate its current trials and build a prosperous, harmonious future for all.
