?The African film industry has lost one of its most defining icons as veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, affectionately known as Olu Jacobs, has passed away at the age of 84.


The news was shared by his family, with his son Olusoji Jacobs and beloved wife, legendary actress Joke Silva, releasing a statement celebrating a extraordinary life "well lived and fought." Honored by his family as "The Lion of Lufodo," the revered patriarch leaves behind a monumental legacy that shaped modern African cinema.


Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs honed his craft at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, building an impressive early career in British theatre, classic television productions, and international feature films.


Upon returning to Nigeria, his majestic screen presence, authoritative voice, and unmatched dignity elevated the Nigerian movie industry, earning him widespread acclaim as one of Nollywood’s greatest pioneers.


As fans and colleagues around the globe pay tribute to his decades of artistic brilliance, the family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.
