SPEAKER ABBAS COMMISSIONS MODERN COMMUNITY MARKET IN LATE MOTHER'S HOMETOWN

The Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen on Friday commissioned a modern community market attracted to Dutsen-Kura, a community in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, which is the hometown of his late mother.

?In addition to opening the market, Speaker Abbas performed the groundbreaking ceremonies for four major infrastructure projects in the area: the Darika Central Mosque, the Dutsen-Kura to Kahutu road, the rehabilitation and expansion of an earth dam, and a new skills acquisition centre in Gozaki. He also inspected an existing skills acquisition facility within Dutsen-Kura.

?Speaking at the market commissioning, Speaker Abbas emphasized that the new facility would eliminate the challenges of trading in the open, exposed to weather elements and security risks.

?"To build a market for this community is not a duty alone; it is an act of gratitude and of affection," the Speaker said, noting his deep emotional connection to his late mother's birthplace. "A thriving market is among the surest signs of a thriving people. When we strengthen the hand of the market woman, we strengthen the entire community."

?He further noted that the market will serve as an economic catalyst for local youth by generating employment and offering an honorable alternative to idleness, while connecting the agricultural output of Dutsen-Kura to broader regional markets.

?Speaker Abbas stated that these interventions align with the grassroots development focus of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

While acknowledging the economic hardships citizens have faced during recent economic reforms, he assured the public that the benefits of these policies are beginning to materialize.

He urged the community to form a transparent management committee to maintain the infrastructure for future generations.

?Detailing the scope of the new projects, the Speaker explained that the rehabilitation and expansion of the Dutsen-Kura earth dam would enable dry-season farming, support livestock, and curb seasonal water scarcity.

Furthermore, the Dutsen-Kura to Kahutu road will improve access to healthcare, education, and trade routes, while the Darika Central Mosque will serve as a dedicated space for worship and community instruction.

?The event concluded with expressions of appreciation from the Speaker to local traditional and religious leaders, as well as the residents of Dutsen-Kura, for their continued support and guidance.
