? Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian diplomacy and disaster response, pledging continued support for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
?The assurance was given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, while receiving the Letter of Commission from the newly appointed IFRC Head of Delegation, Dr. Ghulam Muhammed Awan, in Abuja on Wednesday.
?Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu commended the Red Cross Movement for its generations-long legacy of neutrality, voluntary service, and impartial assistance during emergencies, conflicts, and disease outbreaks.
Reflecting on her personal experiences, the Minister noted that the organization’s community-focused initiatives have long inspired Nigerian youth toward volunteerism and compassion.
?"The neutrality of the Red Cross remains one of its greatest strengths," the Minister said, noting that humanitarian workers in Nigeria enjoy local community trust, which safely aids the delivery of life-saving relief.
?In his remarks, Dr. Awan thanked the Nigerian government and reiterated the IFRC’s commitment to boosting the country's disaster preparedness and public health response.
Describing Nigeria as a strategic hub for West and Central African operations, he expressed optimism about expanding government partnerships in climate resilience and emergency capacity building.
