Foreign Affairs Ministry Honours Amb. Oluremi As He Bows Out of Active Service


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs honours Ambassador Oluremi Oluyide, immediate past Director of the Planning, Research and Statistics Department, at a colourful retirement send-off ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday 22nd April 2026, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s diplomatic service.


The event, attended by senior government officials, diplomats, and staff of the Ministry, celebrated Ambassador Oluyide’s illustrious career, spanning decades of dedicated service both at Headquarters and in Nigeria’s Missions abroad.


Speaking at the occasion, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, described the celebrant as a diplomat of exceptional competence, integrity, and professionalism.


He commended Ambassador Oluyide’s intellectual depth and commitment to excellence, urging younger officers to emulate his discipline and work ethic.


The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry who was represented by Ambassador Adebayo Adeyemi, Director office of the Permanent Secretary reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to recognising excellence and upholding the highest standards of professionalism in the conduct of Nigeria’s diplomacy and described the retired officer as a hardworking, humble and brilliant officer.


In her welcome address, Ambassador Esther Erewa, Director of the Policy Division in the Ministry, highlighted the celebrant’s enduring legacy within the Ministry, noting that his leadership and dedication had significantly contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy implementation and institutional capacity.


Goodwill messages from colleagues and dignitaries further underscored Ambassador Oluyide’s role as a mentor, strategist, and respected figure in the  Nigerian diplomatic community, whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the Ministry.


In his remarks, Ambassador Oluyide expressed appreciation to the Ministry and all stakeholders for their support throughout his career. He encouraged serving officers to remain committed to professionalism, resilience, and national service, while reaffirming his willingness to continue contributing to Nigeria’s development in retirement.


The ceremony featured the presentation of awards, cutting of a retirement cake, and a toast in honour of the celebrant, marking the culmination of a distinguished career in the Nigerian Foreign Service.
