Foundation urges Bauchi Govt to prioritise adult education, empowers 40 Teachers

By Ahmed Ahmed

The QM Foundation has called on the Bauchi State Government to make adult education a central focus of its development agenda.

This appeal was made by Engineer Quaim Mahmood, Founder and Chief Executive Director of the Foundation, during the closing ceremony of a three-day Training of Trainers workshop organized for Adult and Non-Formal Education Instructors and Islamiyya Teachers in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Mahmood emphasized that the initiative was necessary given Nigeria’s literacy challenges, particularly among rural women who lack basic reading and writing skills.

He noted that in an era of globalization, it is vital to design inclusive education programs that can help bridge this gap.

He explained that empowering adult learners would not only increase the number of educated adults but also improve learning outcomes for students while easing teachers’ responsibilities.

The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity in modern teaching methodologies. Attendees received training in classroom management, teaching methods, the adult learning cycle, and micro-teaching.

They also learned how to develop lesson plans, schemes of work, and effective evaluation techniques.

Participants were selected from diverse communities across Zaki LGA to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunity.

“As part of his support, Mahmood pledged a monthly stipend of ₦10,000 to each of the 40 participants for five months to help them apply and expand the knowledge gained in their respective communities.

Instructional materials including teachers’ guides, blackboards, and teaching aids were distributed to the 40 participating communities.

Mahmood reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to uplifting the standard of both formal and non-formal education in Bauchi State, describing the initiative as an investment in “those who teach, guide, and restore hope through education.”

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Malam Adamu Hamma expressed gratitude to the QM Foundation and promised to apply the acquired knowledge to train others within their communities.
