The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to tackling national security threats, strengthening border controls, and boosting economic recovery during a town hall engagement with the Nigerian community in Luanda, Angola.
?Speaking on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), acknowledged that regional instability in the Sahel continues to spill across national borders. He assured citizens that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is actively increasing the operational capacity, manpower, and equipment of the Armed Forces to defeat internal and cross-border security threats.
?The Nigerian delegation to the summit, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Tinubu, also addressed key diaspora concerns. Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the nation’s economy is on a steady path to full recovery.
In response to appeals from the local diaspora regarding travel documentation, Tunji-Ojo committed to evaluating the establishment of a dedicated passport production center in Angola to streamline issuance and renewal processes.
?The interactive session was coordinated by the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who commended the community for projecting a positive image of Nigeria abroad. She reassured attendees that the welfare of citizens in the diaspora remains a priority in national policymaking and urged them to remain law-abiding and united.
?Representing the Nigerian Community Association in Angola, Secretary Nnaemeka Francis Obi highlighted pressingly felt issues, including limited access to consular services, local healthcare challenges, and the need for direct commercial flights operated by a Nigerian airline between both nations.
?NiDCOM reaffirmed that the Federal Government will continue working alongside relevant ministries to address these logistical and welfare concerns, ensuring that Nigerians abroad remain integral to the country's broader development agenda.
