?The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully concluded its voluntary evacuation program, bringing home a total of 1,490 Nigerian nationals from South Africa.

This humanitarian initiative, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda, was launched to protect citizens amid safety concerns stemming from recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.

?The fifth and final evacuation flight, operated by Air Peace, landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, carrying 305 returnees and three coordinating government officials.

Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the multi-agency operation was executed in partnership with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NEMA, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Air Peace, and South African Airways.

The government emphasized that the operation highlights its core foreign policy mission—prioritizing the welfare, safety, and dignity of Nigerians living abroad.
