FG Disclaims Fake Liberian Letter Making Rounds On Social Media

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to draw the attention of the public, the diplomatic community, and the Government of the Republic of Liberia to a fake letter currently circulating on social media and other online platforms, allegedly signed by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, concerning statements attributed to a Nigerian religious leader and addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia.

The Ministry wishes to categorically state that the said letter is fake, unauthorised, and did not emanate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any official channel of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Consequently, the document should be regarded as a fabrication intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary diplomatic discord between two friendly nations.

A preliminary review of the document reveals several inconsistencies with established diplomatic communication procedures and official correspondence protocols of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry, therefore, urges members of the public, media organisations, and stakeholders to disregard the purported letter in its entirety and refrain from circulating unverified documents that are intended to mislead the public.

The relevant authorities have been notified, and security agencies are taking appropriate measures to ascertain the source of the fraudulent document and bring the perpetrators to book.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible diplomatic engagement and assures the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia of Nigeria's continued friendship, goodwill, and highest consideration.
