The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has joined workers across the country in a peaceful protest to draw attention to the worsening security situation confronting Nigeria.
The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Dauda Maidara Shaiubu, who led the protest march, on Wednesday at the Bauchi Government House, where labour leaders formally presented their concerns to government officials.
The union decried the rising wave of banditry, kidnapping, insurgency and other criminal activities, warning that the persistent insecurity poses a serious threat to lives, livelihoods and national stability.
Addressing officials at the Government House, Comrade Shaiubu described insecurity as a major obstacle to economic growth and social wellbeing,
He noted that workers and their families are among the worst affected. He explained that fear, displacement and loss of property have continued to undermine workers’ productivity and erode public confidence.
According to him, the nationwide protest was directed by the national leadership of the NLC as a show of solidarity with victims of insecurity and a call for urgent, decisive action by all tiers of government.
He stressed that organised labour could no longer remain silent while citizens are exposed to daily threats, emphasising that security remains the foundation for development, social justice and sustainable economic progress.

The NLC Chairman urged authorities to intensify investment in security infrastructure, enhance intelligence gathering and strengthen community-based policing to tackle the growing challenges.
Responding on behalf of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Private Principal Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Adamu Kumbala, described security as a collective responsibility requiring the support of labour unions, traditional rulers and community leaders.
He assured the protesters of the state government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, pledging that the concerns raised would be conveyed to the Governor for prompt action.
