By Ahmed Ahmed

The Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, Professor Fatimah Tahir, has commended the Member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aliyu Aminu Garu, for donating solar-powered streetlights to the female hostel at the university’s Yuli Campus.

Professor Tahir described the intervention as a significant contribution to the university’s quest for a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment, particularly for female students.

She noted that the project aligns with the Safe School Initiative and complements the Bauchi State Government’s ongoing investment in educational infrastructure.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the solar-powered streetlights will enhance visibility and security around the hostel area, especially at night, while also providing an alternative and sustainable source of power.

Represented by the Director of Entrepreneurship Development, Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, Professor Tahir explained that the installation would work alongside the university’s existing 500KVA generator to improve campus lighting.

She described Hon. Garu as an “icon of development,” stressing that meaningful investment in education remains a foundation for long-term societal progress.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the female hostel at the Yuli Campus, recently constructed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was strategically selected for the project to maximize its impact.

Professor Tahir expressed gratitude for the donation and called on other political leaders, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support educational development through similar initiatives.

She also appreciated the Visitor to the University and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his sustained commitment to improving the institution’s facilities and overall standard.
