President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched two senior cabinet members Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu to Bauchi State to condole with the government and people of the state over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The delegation joined thousands of mourners at the three-day Fidau prayers held on Sunday, where Wale Edun conveyed President Tinubu’s message describing the late cleric as “a father, a unifier, and an embodiment of honesty and knowledge who respected all human beings without discrimination.”
The event attracted an unprecedented gathering of dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria, including Sultan Saad Abubakar Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Dr Bala Wunti,
Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, traditional rulers, and representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, delegates from Australia, Senegal, and Chad were also in attendance, Former Minister Solomon Dalong, Ahmed Makarfi
Also present were APC National Chairman Prof. Nentaweh Yilwatda and his PDP counterpart, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, alongside other eminent personalities who continued to troop into Bauchi to pay their respects. Former Defence Minister General Aliyu Gusau, ex-Governor Sule Lamido,
Senator Abdul Ningi, and several clerics described Sheikh Dahiru’s death as a monumental loss to the nation, noting that he was “a mentor and father endowed with deep Qur’anic knowledge.”
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State received the visitors on behalf of the government and family, expressing gratitude for their solidarity.
He described the cleric’s death as “a great loss to the world,” acknowledging his role as “a bridge-builder and a sun that shone on all.”
Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, speaking for the family, prayed for unity in the nation and appreciated dignitaries who travelled from far and near to honour the late scholar.
