Police Arrest Abdulmalik Usman Nagenu, others Over Attack on Governor Bago’s Convoy in Bida
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with last weekend’s attack on the convoy of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago in Bida.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on November 2, 2025, at about 1:45 p.m., when the governor’s convoy was departing Bida for Minna shortly after the local government election.
According to the police statement, reports from “B” Division, Bida, indicated that a group of miscreants and thugs launched an attack on the governor’s convoy using stones and other dangerous weapons.
SP Abiodun disclosed that the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of A and B Divisions, Bida, promptly mobilized their men to the scene and dispersed the attackers with teargas, though several vehicles in the convoy were damaged during the confrontation.
He revealed that during the immediate pursuit, three suspects Ali Mohammed and Adamu Hussain, both of Nasarafu area, Bida, and Isah Umaru of Darachita area, Bida were arrested.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, Abdulmalik Usman Nagemu, aged 39, from Bello Masaba area, Bida, who was also linked to the crime.
SP Abiodun added that preliminary investigations have named two additional suspects Salihu Mohammed and Abdulrahman Baba who are currently being tracked by the police.
“All arrested suspects are assisting the police with vital information to identify and apprehend other culprits involved. Efforts to bring all those responsible to justice are ongoing,” Abiodun assured.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order in Niger State and warned that any acts of violence against public officials or institutions will be met with the full weight of the law.
