The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a group of suspected ritualists in connection with a brutal assault on a seven-year-old girl in Wailo, located in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, the young victim was allegedly lured into a nearby bush by her own brother and accomplices, where they attempted to kill her and forcibly removed both of her eyes in what is suspected to be a ritual-related crime.
“The child was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where doctors confirmed she had permanently lost her eyesight,” Wakil told reporters on Monday in Bauchi.
Following a swift response by officers from the Soro Division, the suspects male individuals aged between 17 and 43 were apprehended at the scene. During preliminary interrogations, they reportedly confessed to the heinous act.
The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s father at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters on October 17, 2025.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane.” He assured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and upholding human dignity.
CP Aliyu has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation.
Police say further inquiries are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the crime and to ensure all involved parties are brought to justice.
