El-Rasheed Steps Up Action for Reconstruction of Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road

By Abubakar Rabilu Gombe

The Member Representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed Bala, has reaffirmed his commitment to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road, describing it as a strategic route essential to the economic growth and connectivity of the North-East region.

Hon. El-Rasheed, who recently undertook an on-the-spot inspection of the road, said the visit was aimed at assessing its current condition and gathering firsthand information to guide further engagement with federal authorities and development agencies.

During the inspection, the lawmaker decried the deplorable state of the highway, which he said has made movement difficult for motorists, traders, and farmers who rely on the route for their daily economic activities.

He noted that the rehabilitation of the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road would not only ease transportation but also enhance regional integration, stimulate agricultural production, boost trade, and create employment opportunities for youths and small-scale business owners.

“The road is one of the key economic arteries linking several communities in the North-East. Restoring it will open up opportunities, reduce transport costs, and improve the livelihoods of our people,” he said.

Hon. El-Rasheed pledged to continue working with Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and relevant federal agencies to ensure the project receives urgent attention, describing it as a critical step toward delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

He also revealed that he had written to the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), urging the body to intervene promptly in rehabilitating and reconstructing the road to modern standards.

Reiterating his commitment to infrastructural development, the lawmaker said improved road networks remain key to unlocking the economic potential of rural communities in Dukku, Nafada, and neighbouring areas.

It would be recalled that on November 7, 2023, Hon. El-Rasheed sponsored a motion on the Need to Rehabilitate the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road and Upgrade It to Truck “A” Status on the list of federal roads a motion that received widespread commendation from his colleagues for its potential to boost connectivity and accelerate economic development across the North-East.
